Back in bed

Last Friday night the ac in my room decided he was going to take off for the weekend, so I had to spend the weekend sleeping in the studio, on the sofa bed. Again I had completely forgotten that I am a person with limitations, but yesterday my back kindly reminded me.
I started feeling a little pain over lunch and by the time it was 5 o'clock, the pain had grown stronger. I had planned to go to the Feria del Libro with my sister and my niece, so I picked them up and tried to forget about the growing pain. "Tried" being the opperative word...
I could only see 1/10 of the Feria. My back was killing me and I was barely able to walk. I had to rush back home (after making a pit-stop at the drugstore to buy some IM pain killers). Of course, the deed was already done and I couldn't get out of bed this morning to go to work. I can't move, but I asked my mom to get me the iBook so I could let you know I was sick again...
Oh, and my ulcers started acting up again. This, though, was my fault. I had some corn on the cob from a street vendor and apparently it didn't agree with me. No, my freezer is fine, it's the ulcers and the gastritis telling me I can't eat things from the street...
I hate it when my body has a better memory than me.
Oh, and one more thing. While I was taking pictures of a demonstration being done by the local CSI Team (yes, we do have that here), my new camera decided she was going to ruin what was left of good in my life and gave up. I looked up what the error sign on the LCD meant (E18, look for it on Canon) and I found out it was irreversible damage. Thank God for warranties! In the meantime, I don't have a camera.
What a day!

It started with our Einstein activity last Monday. Then It was Javier's turn at his school's science fair. His project was "Intensifying Fire", for which he got an Honorable Mention.

1) ¿Te levantas al primer toque del despertador? ¿O eres de los que apagan el snooze una y otra vez?
Buehhh... tengo 2 despertadores porque con 1 no me levanto y el snooze button de los 2 tiene que estar gastado por que le doy por lo menos 10 veces antes de pararme de la cama.
2) ¿Desayunas antes de salir de casa, o prefieres dedicar esos preciosos minutos extra a dormir?
Los días de semana desayuno antes de salir porque si no las úlceras se me revoletan y la gastritis se pone en sus buenas. Los fines de semana raramente desayuno.
3) ¿Te echas una siesta al mediodía?¿Te gustaría pero no puedes?¿O tienes una incapacidad fisiológica (como yo) para ello?
Me fascina dormir al medio día y a cualquier hora que pueda. Soy una dormilona de primera.
4) Si sales de marcha, y te vas a dormir muy tarde (pongamos a las siete de la mañana), puedes dormir ocho horas seguidas (o más)?
¡Pero claro! También puedo seguir de corrido a trabajar sin dormir, pero cuando llego a la casa duermo hasta el otro día de corrido.
5) Por la noche ¿es un placer meterse en la cama, o alargas la velada hasta la madrugada, aunque tengas que ir a trabajar/estudiar al día siguiente?
Me tiro en la cama, pero no me duermo de inmediato. Veo TV hasta que los ojos se me cierran o hasta que se hace muy tarde y me obligo a dormir.

* Car makers place the fuel door on arbitrary sides so everyone doesn't try to pull up to the same side of the pump at gas stations.
* On German vehicles, the gas door is always on the right so people don't have to stand in a traffic lane when fueling on a roadway.
* The gas filler will almost always be on the opposite side of the vehicle from the exhaust pipe.

This last theory appears to be correct. Indeed, none other than Car Talk's Click and Clack, in the employ of government-funded NPR and thus two of our more trusted public officials, confirm this last hypothesis.

According to the boys, there is no universal standard for placement of the gas filler, but 'the exhaust system has to go down one side of the car, and the gasoline filler tube generally goes on the other.' So it's the vehicle's engineering design that determines the location of the gas tank. And who knows -- perhaps in the future gas tanks will only be available as an option.

¿Por qué será que todo el que deja mensajes ofensivos siempre lo hace de manera anónima? ¿Es que no tiene los "guindantes" para dar la cara? Es muy bueno insultar y ofender a los demás detrás del velón del anonimato...

During the sede vacante, he was the highest-ranking official in the Catholic Church.

The College of Cardinals elected him as pope on April 19, 2005.

I was part of the project last night.
I took Mariu, Jose, Memo and Javier to Mariu's and Memo's School (St. Michael's) last night because they wanted to take part in the project.

What wa it about? Here's an excerpt from the project's home page, World Year of Physics 2005:

"A world-wide action, maybe worth an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records, will in true sense form a highlight of the World Year of Physics.

In the evening of April 18, 2005 lights are switched off in Princeton, NJ, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Einstein’s death. A light emerges, forming the seed for a grand optical relay. The light arrived precisely at 9:00 p.m. via internet. We were all watching the projection of the computer screen on a wall , where we were going to be told when the light arrived.

After a few fireworks, we hopped into our cars and drove all around the city, taking the light to all the local schools. Of course, it was symbolic, but we had a great time.

El Sábado mi hermana me prestó Meet the Fockers. La película fue buena, pero no tanto como la primera, pero fue graciosa.
Lo que me llamó la atención de todo esto es que esta mañana ví un anuncio en la televisión que decía que la película iba a estar disponible en DVD este Martes. Yo me pregunto, ¿si todavía no ha salido en DVD, cómo es que nuestros videos la tienen en existencia desde hace más de 2 semanas?
¡Es que este es el país de las maravillas!
Ah, por cierto, se me olvidaba decirles. A los que tengan problemas con demostraciones de afecto entre hombres, será mejor que no la vean. Dustin Hoffman, a.k.a. Bernie Focker, besa y abraza a su hijo Ben Stiller, a.k.a. Greg Focker, y al final Robert De Niro, a.k.a. Jack Byrnes, termina besando y abrazándolos a los dos...

En todos sitios se cuecen habas

Ya que me quejo tanto de la criminalidad en mi país, es justo que también comente sobre la criminalidad en el extranjero.
Resulta que mi hermano mayor estuvo en un viaje de negocios este fin de semana en Miami. Andaba con par de socios y se pararon en Best Buy, a comprar ciertos equipos que le faltaban a la oficina, entre ellos 2 laptops. Hicieron sus compras y la guardaron bien escondidas en el carro, ya que iban a comer después de ahí.
Llegaron al restaurante (no sé a cuál), y no habían hecho desmontarse del carro y caminar hacia la puerta cuando alguien les avisó que les había roto el vidrio del carro y les había robado unos bultos. De más está decir que alguien está disfrutando de 2 laptops nuevecitas con todos los powers y que no pagó por ellas.
Así mismo le pasó a mi otro hermano hace ya unos años. Iba saliendo del Ocean Bank que estaba (o está) en Le Jeune cuando de pronto sintió una goma ponchada. Cuando se bajó, 2 pendejos lo encañonaron y le robaron su maletín con todos sus documentos y su dinero.
La única diferencia es que allá en menos de 3 minutos la Policía estaba en el lugar tomando las declaraciones de mis hermanos.
