July 14 - 17. Paris - Amsterdam

To make things more interesting, we decided to take a train to Amsterdam. We got to the train station with plenty of time to spare, so we decided to wait near our terminal for the train to come. About an hour before the train came, we suddenly saw many cops. They started to close a section of the station, and obviously this section included the one we were seating in. After a while a during the commotion, I asked a cop what was going on and he told me there was a "suspect" on a train and they were clearing the station just in case something hapened. Like in the movies.
Finally our train came and we boarded (I had to carry all the bags, ja ja!) before the "suspect" got out of the other train, so we didn't get to see the ending of the drama.
The train ride to Amsterdam took about 3 hours. I had never ridden on a train before (not counting the trains at Disney World and Disneyland), so I really enjoyed it. We rode first class, so we were pampered all the way to Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is a great city. Full on canals, its ambiance reminded me very much of Quebec. We took the classic boat tour, visited the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum (Rembrant's museums), the Anne Frank Museum (took a tour inside the house), visited the Red Light District (the girls charge 50 euros for 15 minutes! More than what I make!). We also visited Delft (where they make the famous blue ceramics), Rotterdam (a very modern city), The Hague (saw the International Court), and Madurodam (where Holland is reproduced in miniature), and the Flower Market (the Wall Street of flowers).
While in Amsterdam, check the streets twice before you cross them. Not because of the cars, but because of the bikes. Oh my God! I had never seen so many bikes in a city! And so ugly!
Funny story in Amsterdam. When we were at the train station on the first day, dady and I went to look for some infor about trains to Copenhagen and left mom and Mariu to look out for the bags. When we got back, there was a group of about 5 girls talking to them. When we got closer, we noticed they were dominicans. Ja ja! We always bump into dominicans in the weirdest places around the world. The sad part is that dominicans are famous in Amsterdam because most of them travel there to get a job at the Red Light District (got it?).

July 10 - 14 - Paris

After a good night sleep on the plane (8 + hours flying), we finally got to Paris Charles De Gaulle airport. I had contacted a taxi service to pick us up, but it turned out we were on the opposite part of where we were going to be picked up. We had to walk for at least an hour to get there. When we finally did, the taxi wasn't there. Dad went outside to wait for the guy, but after an hour he began to get impatient. He hadn't noticed a van parked right in front of him. I had, but didn't see the name on the side. When I went out to check on him, I realized the guy had been there for more than an hour waiting for us! The driver turned out to be a Physics student who taxied on his free time. Very nice, but drove like crazy! Mom shouted "Lady Di" as he was speeding on the highway while talking to us.
The hotel was very nice (Courtyard at Neuilly Sur Seine).
Like every tourist, we visited the Eiffel Tower (I personally got up to the last floor. A great view of Paris), L'Arc De Triomphe, Montparnasse, Notredame Cathedral, Les Invalides (Napoleon´s tomb. Who would've thought that a small guy could have such a big tomb!), Latin Quarters, The Louvre Museum (since I'd read "The DaVinci Code", I checked out all the sights. Oh, the Mona Lisa!), Les Champs Elysees, la Place de la Concorde, took a boat tour on the Seine River, the Opera... the works.
One night we went to see the show at Moluin Rouge. We had made reservations at the hotel, and when we got there there was a line at least half a mile long of people waiting to get inside. We were going to ask one of the persons that worked there where we could go to get in line since we had prior reservations, but apparently the guy confused us with someone. He hugged my mom, gave her kisses and told us to come with him. Like royalty, we went by everyone that was in line and went straight in to a waiting room, near the entrance. When it was time, another guy came to get us and let us in. We were the first ones in and got the best seat in the house! Hurray!
One day we decided to take the train to Versailles Palace. Obviously, we got lost on the subway and when we finally got to the right station, while getting on the train a guy slipped between dad and me and opened my purse, snatching my camera. I immediately noticed and confronted him. He simply ignored me. I told him in english, french and spanish to keep the camera but give me the chip back (I had taken around 200 pictures), but had no luck. I finally decided to let it go (there was no cop around).

July 9 - Santo Domingo - Paris

The trip begins. When we go through migration at the airport, dad realizes the airline has ticketed the luggage straight to Amsterdam. Perfect! Now we won't have any clothes in Paris. After much talk, a guy from Air France solved the luggage issue. Time to get on the plane.

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.

Guess who's back...

Yeah, me. I know it's not very exciting, but I'm back home (against my wishes, of course). I know I promised to post while on vacation, but I had a very tight schedule and wasn't able to (too tired to write).  I'll be posting about every day of my vacation (places I went, things I did, etc.) the next few days, so keep checking.
Time to get back to work (YUCK!).

P.S. Is it me, or does blogger have a new look?

One more digit.

I remember this Seinfeld episode where Elaine was bitchin' about having to dial 1 to call her home. It was when one digit was added to Manhattan's area code (212), because there were many phones on the area and lines were scarce.
While driving to work this morning, Teo Veras (the host of "Teo Veras en la Mañana", the radio show I listen to every morning) said that apparently this was going to happen here. It seems that there are too many phones in the DR and telecom companies will have to add another digit to our area code (809), which we will be forced to dial. So, if for example I want to call home, I'll have to dial (809) xxx-xxxx (thought I was going to give you the number???).

The bad thing...

About going away for vacation is that the closer the date gets, the less you want to work and the more work you have to do.

Now Blogger will start crashing. Or better yet, it will come with a secret bug and we will be forced to buy the upgraded version to get rid of it.
Hey! Guys from Google! Don't let him take over!

My trekkie heart goes out to you, Mr. Scott. You will always be the one I call to beam me up from this place.... And I know that even if you tell me that the warp engines will be online in 4 fours, you will be able to get them to work in 45 minutes.

The day after tomorrow...

And I'll be "Leaving on a jet plane"...
(Is it me, or am I excited?)

Argh!

Jose tried to help me "clean" my blog yesterday using Dreamweaver. Ever since that, whatever I post doesn't appear online. Perfect.

Troy!

I went to the movies last night and saw "Troy". Let me just say something: Jenniffer Aniston is the luckiest woman in the whole world! There are no words to express Brad Pitt.
The movie was a great epic (no wonder it was based on Homer's "Illiad"). Just like "The Last Samurai", I enjoyed watching the 3 hour-long movie, and when it was over I hadn't realized I had not moved from my seat for the entire duration of the film. Great special effects, terrific battle scenes, awesome cast. What more is there to be said?
If you like these types of movies, I highly recommend you watch it.

May he rest in peace.

7 days!

And I'll be flying away! Don't worry, I'll try to post from wherever I find internet access.

Horrible tragedy!

This happened last night, apparently at my sister's (my nephew sent it to me). Stranger things have happened...
